Social Determinant of Health Focus | Lack of access to affordable housing is a major contributor to poor health outcomes. In addition to the direct health impacts that being unhoused has, such as from increased exposure to the elements and communicable disease, people experiencing homelessness are exposed to additional risk factors, such as lack of social support, limited nutrition, and increased vulnerability to crime - all of which lead to negative downstream effects to their health. Our LC project focused on spreading awareness about these health risks to medical students, health professionals, and community advocates. |
