Trainee Associate Membership
The University of Cincinnati Cancer Center is committed to developing the next generation of cancer researchers and providers. The Trainee Associate Membership Program offers trainees access to tools and resources to help them be productive and successful
cancer researchers and professionals.
Trainee Associates will have access to a community of cancer trainees and mentors, pilot grants, seminar series and educational events, career development opportunities, and more. There are numerous benefits to all Trainee Associate Members that include:
Benefits of Membership
Predoctoral Pilot Grants
Graduate students can compete for Predoctoral Pilot Grants with a value of $5,000 each. Up to two grants will be awarded annually.
Postdoctoral Pilot Grants
Postdoctoral students, residents/fellows and associate research scientists can compete for Postdoctoral Pilot Grants with a value of up to $5,000 each. Up to two grants will be awarded annually.
Travel Awards
Trainee Associate Members can apply for travel awards with a value of up to $1,500 to be applied to costs related to attendance at a meeting at which the trainee is giving a poster or platform presentation.
Poster Printing
Trainee Associate Members may request to have their scientific posters printed by the Cancer Center. Posters must be approved by mentors prior to submission and uploaded online a minimum of ten days before the desired delivery date.
Paper of the Year Recognition
Publications will be selected based on scientific merit and impact. Awardees will receive an award of up to $500. Up to two awards will be given annually.
Career Networking Events
Trainees will be invited to attend career networking events. These events will include panel discussions on career paths by scientists and leaders in industry, business, science communication, education, science philanthropy, and policy. Following the panel discussions, trainees will be invited to mingle with the panelists.
Training Opportunities
Trainees will have increased access to Cancer Center retreats, seminars and short courses for grant and manuscript preparation, cancer biology education and career development.
Trainee Associate Member Resources
Trainee Associate Members also receive the Cancer Center’s monthly newsletter with funding opportunities, events and more. Trainee Associate Members will be featured in member communications.

Qualifications
Membership is open to trainees under the mentorship of University of Cincinnati Cancer Center members. Trainees include the following:
- Graduate students enrolled in a cancer-relevant PhD, MD, or MD/PhD program at the University of Cincinnati. To qualify, trainees must be within 6 years from the start of graduate school.
- Postdoctoral scientists who conduct cancer-related research. To qualify, trainees may not be more than 6 years from the start of their first postdoctoral position or their terminal degree.
- Residents or clinical fellows in oncology-related clinical training.

To become a member, trainees need to complete an application. Applicants will be notified via email about the status of their membership.
