Dr. Lewis obtained his BS degree in Biology from North Greenville University in 2007, followed by a PhD degree in Biomedical Sciences from Medical University of South Carolina in 2015; later that year, he joined Bogdanov lab to work on a set of projects
aimed to interrogate alternatively spliced Tissue Factor (asTF) as a novel therapeutic target and biomarker in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Dr. Lewis’s work in this area was critical to the publication of several research articles
and the securement of various lines of funding, most recently the PDAC-focused 2021 Catalyst Research Award funded by The Dr. Ralph and Marian Falk Medical Research Trust. Dr. Lewis continues to work on asTF and has recently initiated a project aimed
at the elucidation of asTF’s contribution to the development of chronic liver disease; his overarching career goal is to become an independent investigator bridging the fields of hematology and hepatology.
Kathryn Purk, BS MS-1, UC COM
Ms. Purk obtained her BS in Biochemistry at University of Notre Dame in 2021; her sustained interest in cancer-relevant research bodes well for her longer-term career aspiration to pursue a specialty in hematology / oncology. Kathryn is a recipient of
a competitive 2022 Fellowship in the Medical Student Summer Research Program (MSSRP) at our College; the main goal of the project is to evaluate, in preclinical models, a recently developed humanized inhibitory antibody against human asTF as a novel
anti-cancer biologic.
Sanniya Khan
Ms. Khan, a research volunteer, is a first-year student in the Medical Sciences Program at University of Cincinnati; this is a 4-year BS program with a curriculum geared towards preparing students for careers in the healthcare industry. Sanniya is very
interested in hematology / oncology research and excited to have the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing projects in the Bogdanov lab.
